By Marc Compton

Perhaps nothing in the world will shake a man up as having come up with wedding proposal ideas for his girlfriend. Because it is such a big event in both of their lives, the man doesn't want to screw up the memory that she will have of that moment. Sometimes he is being overly analytical about the whole process because it is supposed to be a special moment and not an overly orchestrated one. However, that doesn't mean that he doesn't need to think about ways to propose marriage that will be memorable.

If you have a girlfriend who is more of a homebody, she might appreciate having a wedding proposal right there in her own home. For instance, you might want to draw a bath, make a path of rose petals leading to the bath and have her ring sitting on the side of the tub in a red velvet box. Or perhaps you can even slip the ring on her finger while she is sleeping and then wake her up with a surprise breakfast while you wait to see how long it takes her to notice her new piece of jewelry.

Of course in this technological age of the internet, many guys are opting to try a high-tech wedding proposal idea. For instance, you could create a video of your proposal and post it on YouTube. Tell her you got a great, funny video on your e-mail and you want her to see. She will be shocked when she realizes exactly what she's watching! You can even create your own website totally geared around proposing to her and send her the link. Of course, many men and women do not feel these high-tech ways of proposing are very romantic.

In the end, her wedding proposal is one thing that she will remember for a lifetime. Everyone's idea of romance is totally different, so you need to think through what you think she will enjoy. It doesn't really matter what other people think about it as long as the two of you are happy with the outcome.

Recession-Proof Marriage Proposal Ideas

By Diane Ferraro

The economy's in a downward spiral, unemployment's at an all-time high, and don't even get me started on the sub-prime mortgage crisis. One thing all this doom and gloom can't stop: true love. When you find "the one" do you consult Jim Cramer on CNBC? No. All logic and practical thinking goes out the window and you're going to propose. 401K returns be damned, you're asking the love of your life to marry you.

What you need are a few recession proof marriage proposal ideas. Oh, and the engagement ring.

First, figure out what you're really comfortable with in terms of budget for the ring. The two months' salary is a myth. You don't need to go into debt to get a diamond engagement ring. Remember, the symbol of the ring is a commitment to your future together. There's no rule that says a one carat diamond solitaire guarantees a lifetime of bliss. If you feel $1000 is the most you can spend on the ring, then stick with that price point. Check out an engagement ring website such as Robbins Brothers to get a feel for the style options, then make an appointment to visit the store.

As you're searching for the ring, think about how you want to propose. Jot down places you've visited together, favorite movies, restaurants. Is there a dream destination you've both talked about visiting, such Paris, Hong Kong or Hawaii? Once you have a list of ideas, take the next step and research affordable ways to make something out of your budget become a reality.

Examples of "budget" proposal ideas:

  • Venice, Italy would set you back at least $4,000. Instead, book a one hour gondola ride at sunset in Naples, Long Beach (California) for less than $100. Let the reservation clerk know you're proposing and they may even throw in a complimentary glass of champagne.
  • A trip to Hawaii can be booked through Expedia or Pleasant Holidays for as low as $399 per person. This economy trip is still a good chunk of change for most folks these days. What you could do is bring Hawaii to your own patio. Pick up luau supplies at any party supply store, including tiki torches, plastic leis, and a palm tree. Decorate the table with fresh orchids and ask her to marry you with a pineapple mimosa (pineapple juice & champagne) and one of those cute umbrella toothpicks holding the engagement ring.
  • A favorite gourmet restaurant, with a bottle of champagne and dessert, could cost upwards of $250 for dinner for two. Opt for a take-out meal instead, with the best of everything from an upscale grocer like Whole Foods or Bristol Farms, and set up a picnic under the stars. Ultra-sweet, very personal, and after she says "yes" to your proposal you won't have the waiter giving you the evil eye as he tries to turn the table.

Still need help coming up with great ideas to propose while staying within budget? Robbins Brothers has a list of suggestions that just might inspire you.

If you're in love and ready to say "I do,", don't let the stock market stop you. When an anniversary comes around and she hints that she wants a new engagement ring and the week in paradise, you can propose all over again. Assuming we're not in another recession.

3 Free Marriage Proposal Ideas

By Amit Avital

We've all heard of those amazing stories where a man brings his soon to be wife to tears (of joy) with an amazing marriage proposal. We've also heard of someone we know giving the worst marriage proposal ever and then getting rejected... So, today I'm going to put you in on the secret and share with you the ULTIMATE way to get the girl you love with these 3 free marriage proposal ideas. I guarantee you'll be kicking yourself thinking why oh why didn't I know this before.

Free Marriage Proposal idea #1

Write a story book. In the book start off with two children and walk each other through life. Eventually, lead up to the point where he (you) propose marriage. Make a little pocket on the second to last page and put the ring in the middle where their hands meet. Show the girl already wearing the ring... Make sure you read it and when you get to the page that says "will you marry me" make sure you say those words with so much passion that she simply can't refuse. Make sure you turn to the last page of the story after all the excitement and have it say something along the lines of "happily ever after". Also make sure you make the book yourself and little pop ups would be good also. Even if you're not the most creative just do your best. This is going to be the one "kids book" that you'll be holding onto for the rest of your life.

Free Marriage Proposal idea #2

A walk to remember. For this marriage proposal idea it's going to take some rattling of your brain. You're going to need to recall all of the important places. Your first date, your first kiss, that park you guys used to go for walks in, that first movie you saw together, etc. Have her go on "quest" to find these items or go to these places, on the last one lead her back to you perhaps at your home or apartment when she walks through the door be waiting for her with the ring and your hand, down on one knee, and pop that magic question "will you marry me" with a walk through your relationship like this she's sure to say yes.

Free Marriage Proposal idea #3

The "message in a bottle" marriage proposal. Here's how it works... write a compelling poem, song, or special proposal message. You can do this a bunch of different ways but one good way to make sure that this is a successful marriage proposal is by having an intimate dinner at your home... have the note tied to a string with it connected to the cork. Pickup a bag of ice at the convenience store and find a nice thing to put the bottle in on the table now put the ice over the bottle with just the neck poking out. Have two glasses of wine on the table and ask her to poor the wine while you use the bathroom, or finish up dinner, just don't go far away. As she opens it she'll notice something strange there's a note in the bottle (be sure to have an extra bodily tucked away for the actual dinner). When she's done reading the note, take the ring out of your pocket, and say those magic marriage proposal words!
