Proper Attire for an Afternoon Wedding

By Nikki Carroll

Traditionally, weddings take place in the late afternoon or early evening, so it's a general rule that a guest can wear an evening gown or suit as proper attire. Sometimes, however, the bride and groom decide to hold the ceremony in the early afternoon, perhaps because of scheduling problems with the church or location. In this case, it's necessary to select clothing that will go with the time. No one wants to stand out during the vows or the reception, so pick out a sun dress or a light shaded suit.

I think some good inspiration to find the right clothing is to think of Easter Sunday or a baby's christening. Any daytime formal event is going to be the kind of attire that you're looking for. For the groom and groomsmen, the color of the ties and vests or cummerbunds needs to be a light or even pastel shade. Also, the tux jacket and pants are better off being gray than black. Wedding gowns are usually white, so that's taken care of, but the bridesmaids' dresses need to have a bright feel to them. This doesn't mean that the color itself needs to be bright, like a sunny yellow. Even though that would work, a light lavender would be beautiful, too. Another thing to guide you is your floral design. The color motif of your flowers is even more powerful when it matches or complements the color choices of the wedding party's clothing.

If you are a guest attending, then the same rules basically apply for men, but women need to look for a simple, pretty sun dress. Also, a nice hat would work in this situation, whereas is might look tacky for an evening event. Just stick to spring and summer colors and earth tones.

Neck of a beach wedding attire:

Men's beach wedding attire:

· Groom's beach wedding attire should match with that of the bride's attire.

· A light colored linen suit will be the best choice for men, as it will keep the body cooler.

· A solid, bright tie will match the light colored linen suit as well as the tropical flowers that are found in beaches.

· If you choose to be less formal, even a dark pair of shorts with a nice polo shirt will be considered as trendy.

· A semi casual style can also be maintained by a button down or polo shirt with a nice pair of pants or jeans, T- shirt and sandals combination will give a dashing look to the groom.
